Internships

Regular or decaf?

They always say your first job will determine what it is you do all your life, how much you get paid and how executives will value your contributions to their companies. Yet, they do surprisingly little to help young minds, fresh out of school, to actually find a worthwhile job, do they? Because we have been through this very situation ourselves — in fact, for some of us it wasn’t all that long ago — we have decided to offer a real, honest-to-goodness, true-to-form internship program.

If your idea of an internship goes beyond mastering the perfect brew — although a knowledge of all things caffeine is always an asset in engineering —, we have something for you. Here at Dynamic Network Services Incorporated, every intern is part of our daily operations. Code development, system planning, administrative work: no department is off-limits. This means you will get a chance to work on actual projects, learn hands-on about the forces that drive a company like ours and maybe come up with the next killer features our clients the world over will rave about.

Great work, teamwork

As engineering is our specialty, we mostly recruit our interns from students with engineering and science majors. A keen interest in networking technologies, web development and telecommunications is a prerequisite to thrive in a company like ours. As our signature implies, we really are the last ones standing every night and we are, of course, the first ones up too, so be sure to pack all your energy along with the copper wiring.

Networking expertise isn’t all we’re looking for, however. A great sense of team work and a sharp entrepreneurial mind are company staples. If you feel like pushing the limits with your colleagues and using the influence of a business to give back to your community, you shall be welcomed with open arms.

Example cases

As part of the deployment of our DynWiFi network, we work with interns on “war driving” coverage areas to test signal strength and network availability. Once potential issues are identified, or when the network expands, you will be assisting us in the installation of new nodes and the building of rooftop, outdoor transmitters. (Dark glasses and black suit sold separately.)

If network management is your passion, you may like to work with us on monitoring our cutting edge anycast DNS network, that really puts a tester’s mind to the, well, test. Monitoring also means developing custom tools to survey the system and ensure it never fails its users.

Are you more of a hardware person? We always need help evaluating the latest load balancing and routing gear, on both test links and large-scale networks. As part of this project you would be responsible for coming up with common criteria and test protocols, then benchmarking all devices and finding the best fit for our operations.

How to apply

If you are a student in our hometown of Manchester, New Hampshire, you are in luck: we work closely with local schools and regional institutions to spread the word about our internship program. It may be that your school already is in touch with us and can facilitate the introduction process.

If such is not the case, or if you have been asked to organize this on your own, all is not lost. Do get in touch and let us know you would be interested in the internship program. We’ll get back to you and send you the information you require. Do note, however, that we only offer three to four positions a year — soon to increase to five, to accompany the expansion of our team — as we want to ensure we can devote the proper attention to each and every one of our interns.
